My first Colourpop Makeup

  • ULTRA MATTE LIP | Beeper
  • ULTRA SATIN LIP | Echo Park
  • SUPER SHOCK SHADOW | Nillionare
So it’s happened. I finally gave in to the Colourpop itch and ordered a little package during their free international shipping over $50USD promotion (currently still running). Annoyingly, the exchange rate still rounds that to almost $70CAD but hey, at least it works out to under $10 a pop! With so many hyped up options to choose from I decided on the variety pack to get a little sampling of everything. Word on the street is that everything is beautifully pigmented and from my initial swatches, everything looks completely drool worthy.
Take note that the lipsticks are actually darker than their website photos so the nudes will be more full bodied and deeper if you have a lighter skin tone like mine. The Mile High shadow set includes some stunning wearable neutrals and I’m swooned by the variety of finishes from creamy mattes to high shine metallics and even ones shot through with glitter. There’s a few good holy grail contenders here so be prepared to see there often in the upcoming months. Now, I may or may not be making googly eyes are those flashy high lighter pots too…

The "Just Enough" Handbag | ft. Zara

ZARA | Quilted Bag on Chain
I’m the type of girl who has a lot of baggage… yes, I carry everything and the kitchen sink so getting me to scale down has been a long running challenge. And who better to come to the rescue than everyone’s favourite luxe-for-less brand Zara! All around the year they carry different versions of these classic quilted bags and after ripping open the packaging, I’m happy to say it’s just enough.

Big enough…for my long wallet, phone, keys, small camera, compact, 2 lipsticks, band-aids, glasses, cute enough… for going out to an event or just running errands, versatile enough…because of the transforming chain strap detail and secure enough…since the the bag has a full zip and not just the flap). For those who are not a fan of big flashy logos but still want that classic look, this is it. I think we’ll definitely have lots of adventures together.

Stay stylish,

ANASTASIA | Mario Master Palette – Instagram made me buy it

It doesn’t happen often but once in a while I fall hard for a makeup palette and this time around it caught me completely off guard. I first peeped this Anastasia collaboration with Makeup by Mario on Instagram and was instantly drawn to the gorgeous array of jewel toned neutrals. In fact, despite being the hand behind ultra glam celebrities, I had a new found respect for his work after reading an interview in InStyle in which Mario talked about the need to separate TV makeup from the everyday – the man has a good grip on reality and I adore that!

By no means is there any shortage of brown eye shadow in my collection yet this one looked so rich and inviting. It certainly leans towards a more medium to deeper skin tones if you want to wear this as a daily neutral but I’m hoping a lighter hand would make this everyday appropriate for me as well. A perfectly paired colourful palette for a neutral lover; I can’t wait to dig into this one!

iHerb goes K-Beauty: A mini haul

As if I don’t already shop enough on iHerb, I’m thrilled to share with you that this popular natural product focused site now carries a small selection of Korean beauty products. At first this seemed like an odd fit since these aren’t necessarily organic or fully natural brands that iHerb is known for stocking but on the flip side K-Beauty boast plenty of cosmeceutical items which I suppose makes them at least partly natural. Either way, I’ve been more than happy to sneak in a few beauty products with my regular grocery orders so here’s what I’ve been (secretly) hoarding from the last few packages.
  • LANEIGE | Water Sleeping Mask
    • I’ve loved the previous versions of this and it is the holy grail original sleeping mask for many beauty lovers. This here is the updated version and packaging.
  • HERA | UV Mist Cushion
    • Another original beauty item here, Hera and IOPE have gone head to head for years for the best highend cushion foundation when the category first came on the market.
  • CLIO | Kill Black Liquid Eyeliner
    • I’ve giving this one a try since I still haven’t digested the thought of paying ridiculous pricing for my fave Dollywink liner to be shipped overseas and CLIO’s version is a magazine award winnning favourite.
  • MISSHA | Time Revolution Night Repair Ampoule
    • Always been curious of this one and I don’t think I’ve dabbled in Missha skincare.
  • TONY MOLY | Intense Care Dual Effect Sleeping Mask
    • Another repurchased item in a new updated formula, its similar to the Laneige sleeping mask but if I recall correctly this focuses more on healing rather than just hydration. I’m hoping it’s still amazing.

Ordering from iHerb for the first time?
Gives you $5OFF order* and iHerb donates $5 to charity.

Despite being a small category, there’s still plenty of popular items to choose from including the ever popular Elizavecca bubble mask and CosRX skincare but stock does go in and out quickly so be sure to check often or sign up for email notifications. From my last few check ins, it seems they are slowly adding more products here and there but its’ always in small quantities and there doesn’t seem to be any permanent brands which I presume is due to overseas import availability. Pricing is similar to that of eBay although some products are slightly higher. Any thoughts on this K-Beauty update? Or better yet, I’d love to know if you’ve already picked up a few things yourself!

Happy Shopping,

A little visit to Aritaum – the KBeauty megabrand

Aritaum Haul
Aritaum Haul

  • ARITAUM | Cel Cushion Mask | Lifting
  • ARITAUM | Bio Cellulouse Mask | Brightening
  • ARITAUM | Sugarball Cushion Blusher | Posy Pink
  • ARITAUM | Glam Nails Polish | #250 Ginger Brown
  • ARITAUM | Glam Nails Polish | #231 Holographic Gold
  • ARITAUM | Mono Eye Shadow | #97 Modern Fatal
  • ARITAUM | Mono Eye Shadow | #100 Purple Jazz
  • LANEIGE | BB Cushion Puff
We’ve been talking about it for months and the excited that ensued when we finally stepped inside the front doors was exhilarating (evidence here). The arrival of Korean beauty giant Aritaum (who also happen to own IOPE, Laneige and Mammonde) made a lot of sense following the successful introduction of KBeauty here in North America but the shop opened rather quietly and one day it was just there. All decked out, sparkling and ready to go. After a quick look through the store, I ended up lingering at shelf with Aritaum’s own in house brand of makeup products. Much talked about for being both affordable and with good performance coupled with the BOGO deal and I took home quite a few things. While there’s not a very completely collection of Aritaum makeup compared the actual offering in Korea, the price point is very reasonable and on par with drugstore brands. The thrilling thing is finding the unique formulas that you can only otherwise see in high-end shops; cream blusher with a nothing at all texture and the shadows with a crystal like sprinkle – I’m ready for you.
Happy Sunday,

    Inspired Art Supply Haul

If it’s not obvious by the lack of attention to this blog in the past month, life has been… busy to say the least. Between trying to get enough sleep and keep up with work I’ve been looking for little pockets of time for myself in between paperwork and prepping for the next day. But one thing I’m really loving is delving back into art again.

    Art Supplies Modern Watercolor
Inspired by my recent subscription to an online arts and crafts website called Creative Bug, I was particularly drawn to a class on modern expressive watercolour painting. Now my old art student self would have cringed back in horror at the mention of the word but having discovered illustrator Yao Cheng‘s take on this medium has gotten me really excited to dip into this again. Of course, once I stepped foot into the store I couldn’t help but pick up a few extra things so here’s a look at my recent art supply haul.
    • Mungyo | Semi Jumbo Oil Pastels
    • Dynasty | #10 Brush
    • Dynasty | #6 Brush
    • Nobel | #02 Brush
    • Windsor & Newton | Cotman Watercolor Sketcher’s Pocket Box
    • Fabriano | Studio Watercolour Paper / 140lb
    • Demco | Masking Fluid
    • Faber-Castell | 24 Set Colour Pencil

Now that I think about it, this is probably also a good time to dust off my bin of old art supplies I’ve been collecting in my high school years. Who knows, maybe I’ll have something more to show you in a few weeks time.

    Stay Inspired,

3 Things: Sephora VIB Spring Haul

    Sephora VIB Sale Makeup
One of the best spring things to look forward to is definitely the bi-annual Sephora sale. Having spent an alarming amount of dollars in the past year at beauty heaven, I’ve recently been upgraded to VIB status (yes, a silver card!) which means a cushy 15% discount during sale week. Though I have a long rolling list of things on my wishlist, I decided to go with the frivolous wants and ended up with these 3 little beauties.
You’ll recognize the Laura Mercier Mineral Pressed Powder Foundation straight away as it received a glowing review from me just a few months ago. Indeed the medium coverage, smooth texture and skin enhancing effect is a rare gem in my powder collection and whilst the stores seems to have stopped stocking this, I was eager to get a lighter shade online. Pick it up if you see it because I have a feeling this is going to be discontinued in favour of their new (and more expensive) pressed powder foundation.
Now for the record, I’ve never actually owned a single Hourglass product (save for a little sample of their primer) and despite the hype all around the blogosphere I was just never completely convinced whenever I stopped by to swatch their compacts. But when the Ambient Strobing Powder series came out it was love at first swipe. Even though I’m not a meticulous contour and highlight fan, there is a truly special ethereal quality about the shimmer in this powder that reminds me of galactic stardust. It’s unlike anything I’ve seen before so of course the shade Brilliant went into my basket.
In the hair department, the Alterna Caviar CC Cream has been on my Sephora wishlist forever and I decided it was either now or never to finally try it out. The concept of a do-it-all product for hair sounds perfect for unskilled (and lazy) beauty lovers like me who want a polished look but who don’t have the finesse to put a lot of effort into hair styling. It’s formulated to provide manageability, shine, UV protection plus strengthen and moisturize hair; all while the extra hold formula locks the style in place. This particular version is new (and recommend for thick hair) but I also redeemed for a sample of the original and will report back on which one I liked better.
Did you splurge during the Sephora sale?

The sale on sale fashion haul

    F21 Haul
What’s better than shopping during a sale?
… an additional 50%OFF sale items promo of course! That’s exactly what I chanced upon when strolling by the F21 shop last week. By now you’ve probably gathered that I shop at F21 quite often. And while the draw isn’t the crop tops or the slogan tees, I love the incredible variety they’ve got and I can often find a few classic things that suit my taste without breaking the wallet. This time around I’m completely thrilled with these purchases because there’s some fabulous textural fabrics here which will be so versatile.

    F21 Suede Shift Dress

PAIRINGS: Black long sleeve, patterned tights in dark print, boots.

Let’s start off with one of my favourite things in the bag. The fashion fairies must have been looking out for me because I found this suede shift dress in exactly my size. It looked quite short on the model but since I’m a petite 5’2 this was a perfect short but not too short length for my frame. The style is a simple shift silhouette with side slit detailing and two large functional pockets. How will I clean it? I’ve got no idea but it was too good to pass up.

    F21 Cropped Sweater

PAIRINGS: High waisted pencil skirt, cropped jeggings or cigarette trousers and pointed flats.

Now it’s rare that I ever buy 2 of anything but sometimes when the style and price come together harmoniously, you’ve just gotta go for the plunge. Being more full chested I never really liked the look of cropped items but my recent venture into pencil skirts really required some new tops. I tried on this cropped sweater with a high neck, nautical button detailing on the should and 3/4 length sleeves and instantly fell in love with the fit. The material had good stretch so the despite this being a size small, the horizontal stripes didn’t go wonky around my chest and entire feel was very vintage inspired with a touch of Parisian undertone. No more questions asked, I put both the white and navy version in my basket.

    F21 Faux Leather

PAIRINGS: Cropped sweater / blouse, pumps.

A buttery finish in an A-line shape says sassy but sweet and this faux suede skirt is right on the money. While I’m still looking for the perfect leather/faux leather pencil skirt, I thought this was a less intimidating look and would be a nice casual variation. Pairing it with the cropped sweater and it was particularly charming. The soft shine and quality of the faux leather kept it modern.

    F21 Fashion Haul Denim

PAIRINGS: Primsols / high boots, textured knit top.

Rounding things off is something not on sale but I thought was a great on-trend yet nostalgic piece that would be the perfect companion to some casual wear like spring knits and blouses. Can we say 90s revival? The denim a-line fringe skirt with exposed zip. Pockets? Check. Perfect waist fit? Check. Solid denim fabric? Check! I can see this being a frequently work item come spring and even into early summer. Cool sneakers, boots, wedge sandals or pumps, this is sure to become a staple piece for my wardrobe. And because it’s a medium weight denim (not a chambray), it can hold up to frequent wear.

What would you pair with these?
    Stay stylish,

Haul: iHerb – Pacifica, ELF, Weleda

Ordering from iHerb for the first time?
    WWW.IHERB.COM | CLZ086”
     Gives you $5OFF*

New year means new products! I’ve been secretly stashing away the last few iHerb orders so I can put it together in this haul video. In the skincare department, it’s still all about keeping dry flakes at bay while the heater is blasting and I’ve finally gotten around to trying out the Weleda brand. Admittedly, the cute metal tubes did play a role in this purchase but many great things have also been said about their products and there’s such a wide selection of skin and body care to choose from. Makeup wise I’m still looking for the best “no makeup” makeup selection with pinky nude hues and products that I can put on with minimal mirror effort. That being said, I’m off to test out this Pacifica 7-Free nail polish…

    Good night,
